WHO CREATED ALLAH (GOD)? IF GOD CREATED EVERYTHING, WHO CREATED GOD?

The question, ‘Who created God?’ is both nonsensical and self-contradictory. The inquiry, for all intents and purposes, is illogical and meaningless. The question can be translated to mean, ‘Who created ‘the uncreated’?’ How can something be created if it claims its origins as an uncreated being? The question assumes the existence of an entity that is at once created and uncreated. By definition, God is uncreated. If a god was created, then he would not be a god because another creator or god would stand over him. The question is assuming the existence of a limited god. The idea of a ‘god being created’ produces in its essence a circular fallacy.

Whereas creations claim definite beginnings and ends, God does not. He is not confined to time and space, as we are. He is the One that created time and space, just as He created everything else. When it is stated that everything has a Creator, the statement refers to everything that is created. God, however, is uncreated. Our God, our Master, our Creator by definition cannot be created. He is the One performing the Creation, He is the Supreme Being. God exists in an uncreated form. He has no beginning nor an end. He is the First, the Last, the Eternal. He is Self-Existent, Self-Sufficient. God is independent. If he was dependent on something or someone, he could not be God.

“That is Allah, your Lord, Creator of all things; there is no deity except Him, so how are you deluded?” (Quran 40:62)

He is the creator of the Heavens and Earth, the creator of the Universe. He is the Lord of all lords, King of all kings. He is the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful. Allah neither Begets, nor is He Begotten. He cannot be compared to anything, as nothing is comparable to Him. He knows no equal. God offers a description of Himself in His Book, the Holy Quran, stating:

Say, “He is Allah, [who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent” (Quran 112:1–4)

God does not follow the laws of His creation, the law of life, rather He is the One that created these laws in the first place, for us in our time and the place in which we live. He is free from matter. God is above both time and space and lives independently of them. God, who created them, has to exist outside of them. If he was limited by time or space, he could not be God. Just like one that might create an electronic device, he has to live outside of it. It is impossible for a God who is timeless and unconstrained by space to come into existence when He Himself created time and space. The laws of creation and life do not apply to God.

Islam warns against the influence of such a question, which bears the potential to plant doubts into someone’s mind, driving them away from the Right Path. Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him narrated: ‘Satan comes to every one of you and says: ‘Who created this and that?’ To which you logically respond: ‘Allah’ till he questions: ‘Who created your Lord?’ When he comes to that, one should seek refuge in Allah and keep away (from such thoughts). Such questions can be tools of trickery and deception originating from Shaytaan (devil) to wash away one’s faith and lead mankind astray.

Every human bears a pre-dispositioned instinct to believe in and worship a Creator who stands as One — who has no partners and certainly no makers. This belief does not come about as a result of learning or personal reflection but is placed by God into the heart of every human-created. With time, the changing of one’s environment, abetted by the outside influence of parents and friends, might serve to muddle or confuse the believer — turning them away from innate knowledge and fundamental faith. This is why parents must preserve absolute faith in the hearts and minds of their offspring. Prophet Muhammad narrated: ‘Every child is born in a state of fitrah (a natural belief in God), then his parents make him a Jew, a Christian, or a Magian.’ (Saheeh Muslim)
